Foreign Policy has an
excellent piece filled with pictures from Afghanistan during the 50's-60's. The pictures are honestly a bit shocking to see. Many of the photos show uncovered working women that could have easily been mistaken for their Western counterparts. I guess my understanding of modern Afghanistan begins with the Soviet war, but the country's history is obviously much more special and much more complex.
